South plains peanut workshops slated in February, MarchTexas South Plains farmers can update their knowledge of peanut production at two workshops slated for February and March. Texas Cooperative Extension specialists and agents will discuss varieties, disease management, weed and insect control, fertility, inoculation, irrigation and marketing, said Calvin Trostle, Extension agronomist based at Lubbock. Both events are sponsored by Extension, the Texas Peanut Producers Board and the Western Peanut Growers Association. "The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m.," Trostle said. "Each workshop is keyed to a particular production region. Participants will qualify to earn at least three continuing education units." Dates and locations include: --Feb. 28, Southwest workshop at the Gaines County Community Building at Northwest Ave. E and Northwest Fifth Street in Seminole. Knowledge base geared for Runner and Virginia peanuts. --March 1, Northwest workshop at the First United Methodist Church Activity Center at 1011 Houston St. in Levelland.
