Salina cattle auction news

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 3,052 head, Feb. 16, compared to 2,425 head, last week, and 3,310 head, last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing 450 to 750 pounds and heifers weighing 400 to 700 pounds were $2 to $4 lower on a light test. Steers weighing 750 to 850 pounds were $1 lower, and 850 to 950 pounds were $3 to $3.50 lower. Heifers weighing 700 to 750 pounds were steady, and 750 to 900 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 85% 600 pounds and over, 14% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 63% steers and 37% heifers.
