Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 314 head Feb. 16, compared to 224 head last week and 583 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, trends were not applicable due to the light receipts. Receipts were shortened by the snow and cold. Receipts included about 36% bred ewes, 33% feeders, 15% slaughter ewes, 10% feeding ewes, 4% pairs and the balance was miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 10 head, 174 lbs., 48.75. Good 3 to 4, 25 head, 198 lbs., 41.00 full. Utility 1 to 2, 13 head, 148 lbs., 48.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 100 lbs., 100.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 8 head, 68 lbs., 109.00 fleshy; 83 head, 95 lbs., 96.50 fleshy. Feeding ewes: shorn, thin, 23 head, 137 lbs., 31.50 cwt. Replacement ewes: Large frame 1, wooled, bred, per head, 21 head, coming 2 years old, 180 lbs., bred whiteface, lamb now 177.50 Replacement ewes: Medium and Large 1 to 2, shorn, bred, price per head, 17 head, solid to short solid, 176 lbs., bred blackface, lamb Feb. 28, 117.50; 35 head, broken, 163 lbs., bred blackface, lamb Feb. 28, 98.00; 11 head, broken, 141 lbs., bred blackface, lamb Feb. 28, 93.00 thin; 30 head, broken, 150 lbs., bred blackface, lamb March 1, 91.00 thin.
