Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Dec. 16, totaled 9,900 head, compared to 5,800 head last week and 8,000 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder calves sold steady, with instances $1 to $2 higher, yearlings had no good price comparison. Demand was moderate to good. In the direct trade feeder steers and heifers had no recent price comparison. Direct trade was slow. Offerings were light to moderate. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 58% of the supply, heifers 42%, with 45% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 475 head of the total receipts.
