West Plains regional sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, Wet Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,200 head Dec. 19, compared to 5,051 head last week and 2,037 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 600 pounds and steer yearlings over 750 pounds sold $2 to $3 higher, 600- to 750-pounds, mainly calves were steady to mostly $2 lower. Heifers under 500 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, 500 to 650 pounds were weak to mostly $3 lower, weights over 650 pounds were steady to $2 higher. The supply was moderate, with a higher percentage of condition this week in buyers favor. Demand was unevenly moderate to good, best on weaned steers under 600 pounds and heifers under 500 pounds, creating a significant spread between 5 weight steers and heifers. The feeder supply consisted of 55% steers and 45% heifers, with nearly 37% over 600 pounds. The next sales will be Jan. 3, 2007.
