Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 2,887 head Dec. 18, compared to 3,358 head last week and 1,947 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were steady. Feeder steers were $2 to $3 lower. Heifer calves were $3 to $5 lower. Feeder heifers were steady to $1 lower. Quality was plain to average. Weigh-ups were average. Calves were in fleshy conditions. There was active trade on better cattle and a good attendance of buyers. Receipts were comprised of 40% steers, 44% heifers, 15% bulls, with 14% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady. Demand improved for bred cows. A total of 530 cows and bulls sold with 43% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 2, 365 to 398 lbs., 115.00 to 127.00 (125.23); 16 head, 418 to 443 lbs., 115.00 to 123.00 (120.03).

Boners, 52 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1650 lbs., 44.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.00 to 50.50; low dressing, 39.50 to 43.00. Lean, 73 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1475 lbs., 42.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 46.00 to 49.00; low dressing, 37.50 to 41.00. Light, 38 head, 85 to 90% lean, 775 to 1000 lbs., 38.00 to 41.00; high dressing, 42.00 to 44.00; low dressing, 33.50 to 37.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 36 head, 1100 to 1975 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 50.50 to 54.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1150 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average blacks, 700.00 to 775.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 6 years old, 1100 to 1400 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, average quality, 900.00 to 950.00.
