St. Onge cattle auction report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 3,578 head Dec. 8, compared to 3,591 head last week and 1,777 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to firm. Slaughter cows and bulls and feeder cows sold steady to $2 higher. Demand was good on all classes. Feeder receipts included 61% steers and 39% heifers, with 21% percent over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 38% feeder, 44% bred cows and heifers, 16% replacement females, with the balance slaughter cows and bulls and other miscellaneous cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 367 lbs., 141.00; 362 to 376 lbs., 142.00 to 143.00 (142.70) value added; 410 to 442 lbs., 125.00 to 139.50 (133.39); 411 to 438 lbs., 138.00 to 142.00 (140.93) value added; 27 head, 477 lbs., 125.00; 526 to 535 lbs., 109.50 to 114.00 (113.19); 500 to 542 lbs., 115.50 to 118.00 (116.85) value added; 552 to 599 lbs., 101.00 to 110.00 (106.82); 605 to 644 lbs., 97.50 to 107.00 (101.99) calves; 653 to 658 lbs., 98.00 to 103.75 (103.00) calves; 703 to 716 lbs., 99.00 to 104.25 (103.69) calves. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 16 head, 357 lbs., 118.00. Small frame 4, 7 head, 479 lbs., 95.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 408 to 436 lbs., 108.00 to 110.50 (109.91); 405 to 418 lbs., 110.50 to 112.00 (111.36) value added; 460 to 499 lbs., 106.50 to 111.25 (109.40); 501 to 526 lbs., 99.00 to 103.50 (101.10); 39 head, 505 lbs., 107.25 to 108.00 (107.54) value added; 550 to 596 lbs., 96.50 to 105.50 (100.20); 13 head, 621 lbs., 98.75) calves; 654 to 667 lbs., 94.00 to 95.00 (94.64) calves.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 694 lbs., 89.50.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 850 to 1075 lbs., 79.00 to 89.00. Heiferettes, 850 to 1200 lbs., 63.00 to 77.00.

Feeder cows: Large frame 1, 1400 to 1620 lbs., 42.50 to 48.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 785 to 1375 lbs., young 56.50 to 60.00; middle aged 43.50 to 48.50; aged 35.00 to 42.75.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1, bred black, calve spring, price per head, 300 head, 1000 to 1150 lbs., black 930.00 to 1100.00; 172 head, 845 to 1000 lbs., black-black whiteface 810.00 to 1085.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1: bred black-red whiteface, calve spring, price per head, 174 head, 3 to 4 years old, 1000 to 1330 lbs., black-black whiteface 975.00 to 1250.00; 23 head, 3 to 4 years old, 925 to 975 lbs., black-black whiteface 800.00 to 900.00; 112 head, 4 to 5 years old, 1130 to 1395 lbs., black-black whiteface 935.00 to 1180.00; 294 head, solid short-solid, 1170 to 1485 lbs., black 730.00 to 860.00; 488 head, broken, 1070 to 1435 lbs., black-black whiteface 560.00 to 690.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1455 to 1855 lbs., 45.50 to 47.75; low dressing, 42.00 to 43.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1260 to 1680 lbs., 40.50 to 43.00; low dressing, 38.50 to 40.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1025 to 1355 lbs., low dressing, 30.00 to 33.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1750 to 2215 lbs., 55.75 to 58.25; low dressing, 50.75 to 54.50.
