Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,608 head Dec. 18, compared to 1,121 head last week and 991 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs were $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes sold mostly steady to $1 higher. Feeder lambs sold firm to $2 higher. Slaughter goats sold mostly steady to firm. Demand was moderate to good on all classes. Receipts included 34% slaughter lambs, 13% slaughter ewes, 10% feeder lambs, 36% slaughter kids, 5% slaughter nannies and billies, with the balance being mostly miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 6 head, 108 lbs., 91.25; 40 head, 150 lbs., 91.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 115 to 128 lbs., 88.25 to 94.50 (91.82); 133 to 148 lbs., 88.00 to 89.50 (88.57).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 149 to 159 lbs., 35.00 to 41.50 (39.26); 163 to 178 lbs., 40.00 to 46.00 (42.74); 14 head, 208 lbs., 43.00. Good 2 to 4, 189 to 195 lbs., 39.00 to 40.50 (39.65); 17 head, 201 to 215 lbs., 35.00 to 40.00 (37.46). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 169 to 179 lbs., 34.00 to 37.00 (34.50). Utility 1 to 2, 125 to 145 lbs., 27.00 to 29.00 (27.95). Cull 1, 13 head, 124 lbs., 21.00 to 26.00 (22.92).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 85 to 87 lbs., 99.00 to 108.00 (106.85); 91 to 97 lbs., 101.00 to 106.50 (105.65); 101 to 108 lbs., 88.00 to 94.00 (91.67); 20 head, 110 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 65 lbs., 112.00; 26 head, 97 lbs., 96.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 8 head, 36 to 39 lbs., 84.00 to 87.00 (85.56); 41 to 49 lbs., 92.00 to 95.00 (93.16); 53 to 58 lbs., 93.00 to 94.50 (94.10); 61 to 65 lbs., 91.00 to 94.50 (91.99); 75 to 78 lbs., 86.00 to 88.00 (87.68); 63 head, 80 lbs., 90.00 to 91.00 (90.98); 2 head, 183 lbs., 50.00. Slaughter bucks/billies: Selection 1, 14 head, 108 to 145 lbs., 70.00 to 75.00 (73.55); 6 head, 155 to 200 lbs., 69.00 to 74.00 (71.34). Selection 2, 6 head, 88 lbs., 66.00. Selection 1, 20 head, 153 lbs., 73.50 per head.
