Salina cattle market report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,115 head, Dec. 7, compared to 2,645 head, last week and 1,717 head, last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at 400 to 600 pounds were $2 to $3 higher, and 600 to 750 pounds were mostly $1 to $2 lower with some green 650- to 700-pound stees selling $3 higher, and 750- to 1000-pound steers steady to $1 higher. Feeder heifers weighing 350 to 550 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, 550 to 700 pounds were mostly $1 to $2 lower, and 700 to 900 pounds were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter cows wee not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts were 85% 600 pounds and over, 15% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% heifers.
