Premium value challenge winners find value in AngusSourceProducers using registered Angus bulls and enrolling in the AngusSource Program are realizing the value. AngusSource, a USDA process verified program that documents source, age and genetics, has just announced its first round of winners in the Premium Value Challenge. Producers enrolled in AngusSource could enter the PVC by submitting their sale information on their calves. "The Premium Value Challenge was created so we could further recognize those producers who are using the AngusSource program and receiving a premium for their Angus sired calves enrolled in the program," says Ty Groshans, assistant director of commercial programs and coordinator of the PVC. Once producers marketed their calves they were asked to submit their sale information to AngusSource. Those cattle who received more than a $5 cwt premium over the Cattle-Fax mid-range weekly price for their region qualify for PVC. The first round of the PVC was conducted for cattle marketed from August through October. The quarterly state winners and their sale information follow. Homer Mundell, Walsh, Colo., received $8 cwt premium for his steers. In Iowa, Jerry Timm, Victor, Iowa, received $6.50 cwt premium for a lot of heifers. Doug and Janice Burgess, Homedale, Idaho, received $11.50 cwt premium for their steers. In Kansas, DeAnn Ancell, Sylvan Grove, sold heifers at a $14 cwt premium, and Everett Thompson, Quenemo, sold steers for a $5.75 cwt premium. Junior and Carol Kearns, Brookfield, Mo., received $8 cwt premium for steers. Ron Rupert, McCook, Neb., received $9 cwt premium for his load of heifers. Kelly Lanaie Albrecht, Wapanucka, Okla., received $12.50 cwt premium for steers. John Wright, Kaycee, Wyo., sold his steers for a $15.50 cwt premium. The steers and heifers sold at premium through various marketing strategies including private treaty, at a local auction market and via video auctions. Producers who are currently marketing their calves can still participate in the PVC, as it is conducted quarterly. Data is now being collected on those calves sold November 2006 through January 2007. Weekly winners receive an AngusSource cap, and state winners will received an AngusSource wind shirt. For more information about AngusSource or the Premium Value Challenge, go to www.angussource.com. To enter, Producer Participant must submit a completed AngusSource customer feedback form (CSTR 100) to the American Angus Association via mail or e-mail. This form is available online at www.angussource.com or by calling 816-383-5100. Producers must submit the price, weight, number of head, method of sale and location to the American Angus Association. Both steers and heifers are eligible and will compete in separate divisions. Mixed sex lots of cattle are not eligible. Cattle sold will be compared to Cattle-Fax regional data and a mid-range price will be used.
