OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 1,053 head Dec. 20, compared to 4,255 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle and calves were not well tested. Demand was very good for light receipts. Heavy rains fell with 1 to 4 inches falling in Western Oklahoma, an early Merry Christmas! Slaughter cows and bulls were lightly tested and few sales steady to $1 lower. Several thin cows available and many of these went to feed. A total of 274 cows and bulls sold with 34% going to packers. The supply consisted of 36% over 600 pounds, 38% under 600 pounds, 26% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 56% of the feeder and calf supply. OKC will be closed until Jan. 3, 2007.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 350 to 400 lbs., 131.00 to 140.00; package 465 lbs., 121.00, 480 lbs., fleshy 115.00; few 550 to 600 lbs., 103.00 to 108.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 102.00 to 105.50; few 700 to 750 lbs., 98.00 to 101.00. Yearlings, 675 lbs., 103.00; 775 lbs., fleshy 98.00.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 640 to 700 lbs., 80.00 to 84.50; package 775 lbs., 80.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, few 300 to 400 lbs., 116.00 to 126.00; 400 to 425 lbs., 117.00 to 118.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 102.00 to 110.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 93.00 to 102.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00; 725 lbs., 93.00. Yearlings, 650 lbs., 101.00; 775 lbs., 96.50; few 850 to 875 lbs., 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 640 lbs., 97.50. Medium and large frame 2, 700 lbs., 95.25.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 13 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1825 lbs.,, 42.00 to 44.00; high dressing, 45.50 to 46.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.00. Boners, 26 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1150 to 1450 lbs., 43.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 48.00; low dressing, 40.00. Lean, 7 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 37.00 to 40.50. Lights, 34 head, 80 to 90% lean, 800 to 950 lbs., 36.50; very low 28.50 to 32.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 5 head, 1400 to 1975 lbs., 64.00; low dressing, 48.00 to 54.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 6 years old, 900 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black 820.00 to 850.00; 7 years old, 1150 to 1450 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average quality 600.00 to 700.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, average quality 450.00 to 480.00.
