Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,239 head Dec. 14, compared to 2,390 head last week and 954 head last year, according to the USDA Market

Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold $1 to $3 higher. Slaughter ewes sold mostly steady. Receipts were about 44% feeder, 40% slaughter ewes, 10% replacement ewes, with the balance breeding bucks, slaughter bucks, and miscellaneous sheep and goats. Demand was moderate to good.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 186 head, 155 lbs., 34.25. Good 2 to 4, 171 to 182 lbs., 35.00 to 36.25 (35.61). Good 3 to 4, 36 head, 203 lbs., 31.75. Utility 1 to 2, 171 head, 149 lbs., 32.50. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 77 head, 133 lbs., 27.75. Cull 1, 37 head, 144 lbs., 21.75.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 30 head, 53 lbs., 130.00; 63 to 68 lbs., 124.00 to 128.00 (125.87); 72 to 73 lbs., 120.00 to 125.00 (124.47); 83 to 89 lbs., 112.25 to 117.50 (115.94); 21 head, 98 lbs., 103.00; 101 to 102 lbs., 104.25 to 105.25 (104.88); 14 head, 108 lbs., 94.75 fleshy; 18 head, 123 to 126 lbs., 88.00 to 88.50 (88.16) fleshy.

Feeder lambs: Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 20 head, 55 lbs., 120.00; 14 head, 63 lbs., 115.50; 38 head, 76 lbs., 110.25; 12 head, 80 lbs., 106.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 18 head, 47 lbs., 125.50; 25 head, 67 lbs., 122.00.

Replacement ewes: Medium and Large 1 to 2, white face, open, price per head, 68 head, 1 to 2 years old, 156 lbs., 130.00; 44 head, 3 years old, 173 lbs., 121.00; 67 head, 4 to 5 years old, 172 lbs., 102.50; 11 head, 6 years old, 158 lbs., 74.00.

Aged bucks: 4 head, 231 lbs., 30.74 medium; 40 head, 244 to 283 lbs., 26.00 fleshy; 18 head, 213 lbs., 17.00 thin.
