McAlester cattle sales reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,800 head Dec. 19, compared to 2,300 head last week and 1,400 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, McAlester, Okla. Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were mostly steady. Good attendance of buyers and active on better offerings, moderate on balance. Quality was mostly average. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh, few fleshy. Receipts were comprised of 53% steers, 50% heifers with 17% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. Good attendance of buyers. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold, with 48% going to packers. The next sale will be Jan. 9, 2007.
