Joplin regional cattle sale

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 8,200 head Dec. 11, compared to 2,000 head last week and 7,058 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to a light test last week, steers under 500 pounds were $3 to $5 higher, 500 to 800 pounds were $1 to $3 higher, over 800 pounds were steady. Heifers were $1 to $4 higher. A higher percentage of weaned calves were in medium to thin flesh than in recent sales. Demand was moderate to good, supply was heavy. The feeder supply included 49% steers, 43% heifers, with 47% over 600 pounds.
