U.S. Wheat Associates announces staff appointments

U.S. Wheat Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of two new staff members. Steve Mercer joins the organization as Director of Communications and Liz Jayankura is appointed as Trade Policy Specialist. Both start their duties early in September.

Mercer will be responsible for planning and implementing all communications supporting USWA's export market development, trade policy and producer-directed programs. With a career focused primarily on integrated marketing communications in agriculture, most recently he was U.S. public relations lead at AdFarm in Kansas City, Mo. Among other responsibilities there, Mercer managed industry relations programs in the domestic cereal grains and sugarbeet markets.

Jayankura will work closely with the Director of Policy and Government Programs to help develop and implement USWA's trade policy goals, agenda and programs. This is a new position at USWA, created to help fulfill duties added with the recent disbanding of the Wheat Export Trade Education Committee. Jayankura joins USWA from the American Forest & Paper Association where she managed global U.S. wood export programs addressing market access and barriers to trade.

"These positions are critical to USW's mission on behalf of America's Wheat growers to build export markets and influence trade policies that provide for fair, open competition," said USWA president Alan Tracy. "We are very excited to have such talented and enthusiastic people join our dedicated global staff."

U.S. Wheat Associates is the American industry's export market development organization, working in over 80 countries overseas for fifty years.
