Tulsa livestock auction news

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 4,350 head Aug. 21, compared to 3,615 head last week and 2,324 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, light weight steers were $3 to $5 higher, with feeder steers steady to $2 higher. Light weight heifers were $3 to $5 higher, with feeder heifers steady to $3 higher. Quality was mostly average with weigh-ups average to gaunt. Demand was very good with good attendance of buyers. Receipts were comprised of 30% steers, 53% heifers, 17% bulls, with 11% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were mostly steady with instances $3 to $4 higher on higher yielding cows. Quality was plain to average. Slaughter bulls were mostly steady. Many short bred cows continue to go to northern pastures. A total of 896 cows and bulls sold with 30% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 2, 13 head, 335 to 345 lbs., 124.00 to 138.00 (133.76); 10 head, 363 to 395 lbs., 119.50 to 130.00 (125.73); 13 head, 415 to 445 lbs., 114.00 to 130.50 (127.57); 13 head, 460 to 495 lbs., 117.00 to 125.00 (123.95); 508 to 548 lbs., 114.50 to 118.50 (117.25). Small frame 3, 9 head, 504 lbs., 76.50 Longhorn.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 28 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1150 to 1850 lbs., 48.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 43.50 to 47.00. Boners, 57 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1015 to 1450 lbs., 46.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 41.50 to 45.00. Lean, 72 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1408 lbs., 44.50 to 48.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.50. Light, 68 head, 85 to 90% lean, 650 to 975 lbs., 40.00 to 43.50; high dressing, 44.00 to 45.00; low dressing, 35.50 to 39.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 30 head, 1200 to 2040 lbs., 58.00 to 61.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 65.00; low dressing, 53.50 to 57.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1300 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 750.00 to 870.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 525.00 to 650.00.
