Tulia livestock market news report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, Aug. 21 reported 2,467 head, compared to 2,985 head last week and 1,333 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 600 pounds were $6 to $10 higher, over 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were $6 to $8 higher, over 500 pounds were mostly steady. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $3 to $4 lower on a light test. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 90% and slaughter cows and bulls 10% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 69% of the run, heifers 29%, with 45% over 600 pounds.

Replacement cows: Large frame 1, young to middle-aged, 978 to 1095 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 575.00 to 685.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 790 to 1175 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, 435.00 to 535.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, young to middle-aged, 1050 to 1270 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 650.00 to 785.00 per pair.
