Sweepstakes points tallied at National Junior Limousin Show

After several years in the top 10, Jordan Ruppert of Witt, Ill., won the participation sweepstakes at his final National Junior Limousin Show and Congress (NJLSC) in Lawton, Okla., July 9 to 14. The 22-year-old won the Senior Division public-speaking contest, was a senior showmanship finalist, participated in the judging and photography contests, and was a member of his state's team-fitting and first-place Senior Division Cow Camp teams.

Rounding out this year's top 10 were Cody Beach, Bristow, Okla., second; Kameron Sullivan, Prairie Grove, Ark., third; Michael Mitchell, Mangum, Okla., fourth; Zach Grieman, Garner, Iowa, fifth; Eric Birkner, Solgohachia, Ark., sixth; Cassidy Woodard, Calhan, Colo., seventh; Sarah Anne Johnson, Williamsport, Ohio, eighth; Morgan Matlock, Meeker, Okla., and David Campbell, Leavenworth, Kan., tied for ninth; and Randee Corns, Altoona, Kan., tenth.

Oklahoma won the team sweepstakes, followed by Illinois, then Kansas.

Individuals earn sweepstakes points by exhibiting animals; qualifying for the showmanship finals; and participating in the judging, public-speaking and photography contests. State teams gather points from herdsmanship, a group class in the cattle show, booths, the Limousin Beef Cook-Off, and the public-speaking and judging contests.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Englewood, Colo., provides programs and services--including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires--to nearly 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim-Flex hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
