Springfield cattle sales news

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,425 head Aug. 23, compared to 2,500 head last week and 2,034 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers steady, Holsteins were steady, with exception of 400- to 550-pound calves were $3 to $8 lower. Demand and supply were moderate. The bulk of the offering in medium to fleshy condition. A few calves were weaned with shots, but most of the calves were weaned on the trailer. Pasture conditions continue to deteriorate for many producers. The feeder supply included 34% steers, 9% Holsteins, 45% heifers, 12% bulls, with 29% over 600 pounds.
