Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,513 head Aug. 21, compared to 1,231 head last week and 736 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $1 to $2 higher, instances of $2.50 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady. Feeder lambs under 80 pounds sold $2 to $3 lower, most displayed less attractive quality than last week's offering. Feeder lambs over 80 pounds sold $3 to $4 higher. Sheep supplies about 52% slaughter lambs, 20% feeder lambs, and the balance was mostly slaughter ewes and goats.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1 to 2, 18 head, 58 lbs., 85.00; 9 head, 76 lbs., 86.00; 5 head, 87 lbs., 81.00. Selection 2, 5 head, 62 lbs., 75.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 51 head, 124 lbs., 70.50. Selection 2, 7 head, 88 lbs., 63.00.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 34 head, 124 lbs., 95.00; 130 to 139 lbs., 94.00 to 96.50 (95.95). Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 20 head, 113 to 120 lbs., 91.50 to 92.50 (92.19); 9 head, 133 to 136 lbs., 90.00 to 90.25 (90.17). Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 118 to 128 lbs., 93.75 to 95.75 (94.64); 130 to 148 lbs., 96.00 to 96.75 (96.42). Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 10 head, 109 lbs., 90.00; 112 to 127 lbs., 92.00 to 93.00 (92.65).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 121 to 154 lbs., 22.00 to 29.50 (26.02); 160 to 190 lbs., 25.50 to 29.00 (26.76). Good 2 to 4, 202 to 231 lbs., 22.75 to 24.50 (23.96). Good 3 to 4, 5 head, 227 lbs., 20.00. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 137 to 156 lbs., 21.50 to 23.00 (22.61). Cull 1, 133 to 158 lbs., 16.00 to 19.00 (17.52).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 21 head, 44 lbs., 110.00; 5 head, 59 lbs., 111.00; 32 head, 62 lbs., 110.00; 15 head, 73 to 77 lbs., 103.50 to 106.50 (104.88); 83 to 87 lbs., 98.25 to 106.25 (102.07); 92 to 99 lbs., 95.50 to 97.25 (97.02); 13 head, 93 lbs., 80.00 buck lambs. Medium and large frame 2, 16 head, 46 to 48 lbs., 101.00 to 103.00 (102.15); 15 head, 66 lbs., 99.00; 13 head, 74 lbs., 94.00; 91 to 99 lbs., 82.50 to 83.00 (82.91).
