San Angelo center readies for 33rd annual Sheep and Goat FieldTexas The 33rd annual Sheep and Goat Field Day, conducted by the Texas A&M University System Research and Extension Center in San Angelo, is set for Sept. 7. Texas A&M and Angelo State University will co-host the event which will start with registration at 8 a.m. It will be held at the center, which is located just north of San Angelo on U.S. Highway 87. This year's theme will be hair sheep production. Morning topics will include: "Dorper vs. Rambouillet--Lamb Production;" "Performance of Dorper and Rambouillet Ewes While Grazing Rangelands;" "Dorper vs. Rambouillet--Parasite Resistance;" and "Dorper vs. Rambouillet--Expected Economic Differences." Proceeds from lunch will benefit Angelo State University's meats judging team and meat science programs. The afternoon session will feature talks on sheep and goat parasite control and the new rainfall index insurance program now available to producers. The field day will conclude with industry updates and a legislative update. One Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit will be available.
