Salina cattle auction news

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,075 head, Aug. 17, compared to 3,930 head, last week and 4,371 head, last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing 450 to 650 pounds were steady to weak on a light test, and 650 to 950 pounds were steady. Feeder heifers weighing 450 to 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, and 600 to 800 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 87% 600 pounds and over, 12% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% heifers.
