Pratt livestock auction report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 3,910 head Aug. 18, compared to 4,096 head last week and 4,906 head last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing 300 to 700 pounds and feeder heifers weighing 300 to 650 pounds were not enough for a market test but a higher undertone was noted. Feeder steers at 700 to 1000 pounds and feeder heifers at 650 to 800 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows were $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Receipts included 87% 600 pounds and over, 5% 600 pounds and under, 8% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 69% steers and 31% heifers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 60.00 to 64.00 (62.25); low dressing, 53.00 to 57.50 (55.50).
