OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,307 head Aug. 23, compared to 5,458 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle were $1 to $2 higher. Demand was very good for all classes of feeders. Steer and heifer calves were $1 to $3 lower. Demand was moderate to good for calves. Quality was plain to average and not as attractive as last sale. Flesh conditions remain favorable for the feeder and slightly thin to medium flesh, few in moderate flesh to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to gaunt, few full. Slaughter cows and bulls were .50 to $1 higher. Packer demand was good. Demand very good for replacement cows and pairs but many of these head out of state. A total of 642 cows and bulls sold with 25% going to packers. The supply consisted of 54% over 600 pounds, 34% under 600 pounds, 12% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 38% of the feeder and calf supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 325 to 400 lbs., 145.00 to 157.50; 400 to 450 lbs., 130.00 to 140.00, lot fancy 410 lbs., 150.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 124.00 to 135.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 123.00 to 134.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 115.00 to 120.00. Yearlings, 600 to 700 lbs., 120.75 to 124.25; 700 to 775 lbs., 116.50 to 123.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 108.50 to 113.75; lot 995 lbs., 100.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 127.00 to 137.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 112.50 to 117.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 110.00 to 110.75. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 450 lbs., 123.00 to 128.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 111.50 to 118.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.25 to 115.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 105.00 to 106.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, 500 lbs., 97.00; 725 lbs., 91.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 300 to 400 lbs., 129.50 to 140.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 116.50 to 126.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 113.00 to 119.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 108.50 to 113.00. Yearlings, 625 to 700 lbs., 111.00 to 120.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 106.00 to 111.00; 825 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 104.50; 920 lbs., 101.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 119.50 to 121.00; 400 to 475 lbs., 114.00 to 120.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 110.50 to 115.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 102.00 to 107.00; 975 lbs., 96.75. Medium and large frame 2, 345 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 120.00; 400 to 475 lbs., 113.00 to 119.00; 500 to 575 lbs., 110.00 to 116.50; 675 to 735 lbs., 104.50 to 108.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 30 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1175 to 1975 lbs., 46.00 to 48.00; high dressing, 49.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 45.50. Boners, 30 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1025 to 1500 lbs., 46.50 to 49.00; high dressing, 49.50 to 53.50. Lean, 26 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1050 to 1275 lbs., 44.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.50 to 50.00; low dressing, 39.00 to 43.00. Lights, 23 head, 80 to 90% lean, 850 to 975 lbs., 47.50; low dressing, 36.00 to 41.00; very low, 31.50 to 33.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1200 to 2100 lbs., 57.00 to 60.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 66.00; low dressing, 50.50 to 55.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 800 to 900 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 770.00 to 850.00; 4 to 7 years old, 950 to 1100 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, average quality, 710.00 to 770.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1275 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 650.00 to 720.00; 7 to 10 years old, 1200 to 1375 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, high quality, 730.00 to 830.00; 8 to 10 years old, 950 to 1175 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, average quality, 610.00 to 690.00; 9 to 10 years old, 925 to 1000 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, low quality, 450.00 to 525.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 2 years old, 800 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, average blacks, 960.00 to 1000.00; 4 to 6 years old, 900 to 950 lbs., with 200- to 350-lb. calves, average bred back, 950.00 to 1060.00; 4 to 8 years old, 850 to 1275 lbs., with 150- to 300-lb. calves, average quality, 890.00 to 980.00; 9 to 10 years old, 850 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average quality, 700.00 to 800.00.
