Arkansas cattle sales summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending April 13, showed estimated receipts of 7,230 head, compared to 9,280 head last week and 9,217 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls sold weak to $2 lower. Feeders sold unevenly throughout the week. Feeder steers sold mostly steady to $2 lower, heifers under 600 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, over 600 pounds sold $1 to $3 higher. The supply was composed of 4,055 stocker and feeder calves, 1,545 feeder yearllings, 790 replacement cows, 730 slaughter cows and 110 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 41% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 44.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 44.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 42.00 to 48.00; high dressing, 48.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 33.00 to 42.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 34.00 to 41.00; low dressing, 25.00 to 34.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 56.00 to 62.00; high dressing, 62.00 to 68.00; low dressing, 51.00 to 56.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, English cross and English exotic crosses, 300 to 350 lbs., 142.00 to 152.00 few sales to 173.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 140.00 to 150.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 134.00 to 144.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 126.00 to 136.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 119.00 to 129.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 112.00 to 122.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 113.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 97.00 to 107.00. Medium and large frame 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 133.00 to 143.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 126.00 to 136.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 123.00 to 133.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 117.00 to 127.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 119.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 96.00 to 106.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 87.00 to 97.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, English cross and English exotic crosses, 300 to 350 lbs., 127.00 to 137.00 few sales to 141.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 123.00 to 133.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 117.00 to 127.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 111.00 to 121.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.00 to 113.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 97.00 to 107.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 89.00 to 99.00. Medium and large frame 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 121.00 to 131.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 114.00 to 124.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 118.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 90.00 to 100.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 650 to 800 lbs., open heiferettes 75.00 to 85.00; 2 to 3 years old, 800 to 1000 lbs., open heiferettes 57.00 to 67.00; 3 to 7 years old, 850 to 1250 lbs., third stage 68.00 to 78.00, 800.00 to 900.00 per head; second stage 52.00 to 62.00, 725.00 to 825.00 per head; first stage or open 60.00 to 70.00; 8 to 10 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., second to third stage 44.00 to 54.00, 575.00 to 675.00 per head; thin grazing cows 44.00 to 54.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, per pair, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 925.00 to 1025.00; 200- to 300-lb. calves 1075.00 to 1175.00, few to 1400.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 5 to 10 years old, 750 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 700.00 to 800.00.
