Dodge City cattle sales report

Compared with last week, feeder steers and heifers weighing 300 to 700 pounds on a very light test were firm to $3 higher. Steers weighing 700 to 750 pounds were not tested, those weighing 750 to 1000 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Heifers weighing 700 to 950 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter cows, mixed Breakers and Boners were steady to weak, and Leans were $1 higher. There were not enough slaughter bulls for test, but a lower undertone was noted. Receipts weighing 600 pounds and over were 74 percent, under 600 pounds were 20 percent, bred and cow-calf pairs were 1 percent, and slaughter cows and bulls were 5 percent of the sale, with 157 head, selling early. The feeder supply consisted of 54 percent steers and 46 percent heifers.

Medium and large frame 2, 8 pair Middle-Aged solid mouth, 1330 to 1508 lbs., with 100- to 300-pound calves, 910.00 to 1090.00 (1005.64). Medium and large frame 2, 13 pair, Aged broken mouth, 1257 lbs., with 100- to 250-pound calves, 835.00. Medium frame 2, 7 pair, 1153 lbs., Aged broken mouth, with 100- to 150-pound calves, 835.00.

Bred cows: Medium frame 1 and 2, 3 head, 856 lbs., first calf heifers, second trimester, 765.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers and Boners, 80 to 85 percent lean, 53.75 to 55.50 (54.52), high dressing individual, 61.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 51.00 (50.50). Lean, 85 to 90 percent lean, 49.50 to 53.50 (51.30), high dressing few 54.00, low dressing 38.00 to 49.00 (46.68).

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 and 2, individual 63.50, low dressing 57.00 to 58.50 (57.92).
