First-place finishes in breakaway roping and goat tying by Megan Corey led the New Mexico State University women's rodeo team to victory in a weekend rodeo at Cochise College.

Corey, of Bremerton, Wash., earned all-around honors and three belt buckles for her efforts April 15, which also was her 21st birthday.

"She had a great weekend," said NMSU coach Jim Dewey Brown. The win solidifies the NMSU women's top ranking in the Grand Canyon Region standings.

The Aggie men rode and roped to a second-place team finish, with first-place efforts by bullrider Daren Albrecht of Veyo, Utah, steer wrestler J.W. Nicholson of Belen and team ropers Victor Perez of Corona, N.M., and Aaron Moyers of Moriarty.

Second-place finishes went to Aggies Daniel Etsitty of Kayenta, Ariz., in bareback riding; Jake Greenwood of Big Piney, Wyo., in bullriding; Kayla Weiss Lange of Great Falls, Mont., in goat tying; Kevin Lozares of Mountain View, Calif., in calf roping; and Sterling Walker of Aztec, N.M., who team ropes with Chad Steele of Cochise College.

In third place for NMSU were Julie Etchegaray of Eureka, Nev., breakaway roping; Callie Rios of Clint, Texas, barrel racing; and Ty Trammell of Alamogordo, calf roping.

Fourth-place honors went to NMSU's Etsitty, in saddle bronc riding and bullriding; Katrina Stackpole of Tijeras, breakaway roping; Casey Talbot of Malaga, N.M., barrel racing; Lindsey Hughes of Cornville, Ariz., goat tying; and a tie for fourth place between Clay Acuna of Santa Fe and Arcel Allsup of Duncan, Ariz.

Next up for the Aggies is an April 21-22 competition at Dine College in Window Rock, Ariz. In a return to past tradition, the Aggies will host rodeos April 28 and 29 on the NMSU campus for the first time in decades. The event will be in a temporary arena south of Aggie Memorial Stadium.
