KCA elects new officersThe Kansas Cattlemen's Association recently elected new officers. The outcome of the election is as follows: Allan Sents, McPherson, President; Bruce Rinkes, Holton, Vice President; David Pfrang, Goff, Secretary/Treasurer. Sents is the manager and part-owner of McPherson County Feeders, a 10,000 head capacity custom feedyard located in Central Kansas. He received a bachelor's degree in animal science from Kansas State University and a master's degree in meat science from Oklahoma State University. Since December of 1981, he has been in the feedlot business. Allan and his wife, Deanna, live with their four children near McPherson. Rinkes is Owner of Rinkes Cattle Company and King and Associates an Environmental Friendly Engeneering Firm in Holton. He was born and raised on a progressive livestock and crop farm in eastern Ohio. He was at Kansas State University from 1973 to 1977 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. The Rinkes family is involved in a cow-calf, registered and commercial, custom grazing, haying, and farming operation. Rinkes said "we inherited nothing and have been on our own since 1982. Our involvement in various activities gave me a greater appreciation of teamwork for such a small segment of a volatile industry." Rinkes is involved in many segments of Agriculture including: American Angus Association activities, Kansas Angus Association; were he served as the past President, was founder and co-chairman of the carcass data project, founder of the Kansas Angus Bull Grower Project, and founder of the Black Angus influence sale in Junction City. Rinkes and his wife Lynn Hagenbuch-Rinkes, who is employed by the State of Kansas: Division of Meat and Poultry reside in rural Holton with their three sons. Pfrang lives near Goff in Nemaha County with his wife, Ginny, and their three daughters; ages 10, 9 and 5. Prang along with his brother, farm and own a cow/calf to finish beef operation. All animals born on the Pfrang farm are finished in their own feedyard. Their cow herd consists of Angus based cows that have been propagated over four generations of the Pfrang family. Pfrang is driven to see that the operation remains that way for generations to come. Pfrang has been associated with KCA almost from the beginning. He is a past member of the board of directors. Pfrang dedicated hours of personal time organizing booths for KCA at various farm shows and county livestock expos. He has also spent time at the Statehouse giving testimonies on behalf of KCA and the independent cattle producer. Pfrang has watched the organization grow over the years, starting out with a vision and a goal--work for a fair cattle market, increased profitability, and a louder voice for the independent producer.
