Range management school to be held in JulyThe Colorado Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative Committee, Colorado Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS), and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are sponsoring a range management school on July 22 at Keystone Resort. Robbie Baird LeValley, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension, Dave Bradford, U.S. Forest Service, John Murray, NRCS, and Harley Metz, Bureau of Land Management, will be the instructors. Some of the topics to be covered include grass, forb and shrub growth, response to drought, rangeland monitoring, grazing management, animal behavior and rangeland nutrition. The registration fee for the one-day workshop is $50. This includes lunch, beverage breaks, a resource kit, and a range monitoring kit. Anyone interested in attending needs to register by June 15. Send a check payable to the Colorado Chapter SWCS to Barb Gohlke, Secretary-Treasurer, Colorado Chapter SWCS, P.O. Box 688, Franktown, CO 80116. For ranchers interested in attending, the range management school, the sponsors are offering a limited number of scholarships. To apply, ranchers need to submit a short paragraph describing their ranch operation and why they want to attend the school to Ron Follett, Colorado Chapter SWCS president, by May 1.
