The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Sept. 17, totaled 10,800 head, compared to 17,100 head last week and 10,640 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week feeder steers and heifers under 700 pounds had no price comparison. Steers and heifers over 700 pounds sold $2 to $3 higher at the Wyoming auctions. Demand was moderate to good for limited supplies. Direct feeder steers and heifers were steady this week. Direct trade was moderate to active. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry and offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 50% of the supply, heifers 50%, with 56% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 8815 head of the total receipts.
