OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,862 head Sept. 21, compared to 3,646 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers were steady to $2 lower. Feeder heifers were steady in a light test. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Steer and heifer calves were steady with good demand. Quality of feeder cattle mostly average. Calf quality was average to many attractive with several reputation brands included. Feeder cattle in slightly thin to moderate flesh conditions. Calves in slightly thin to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups showed the complete range of gaunt to full. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3.50 lower. Slaughter bulls were $.50 to $1 lower. Demand was light to moderate for slaughter cows as numbers are on the move to market, especially in the south and southeast. A total of 188 cows and bulls sold with 45% going to packers. The supply consisted of 56% over 600 pounds, 41% under 600 pounds, 3% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 35% of feeder and calf supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 300 to 350 lbs., 169.00 to 179.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 148.00 to 157.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 136.00 to 153.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 128.00 to 140.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 120.00 to 136.50; 600 to 675 lbs., 110.00 to 120.50, 600 lbs., fancy 129.50; 715 lbs., fancy 124.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00. Yearlings, few 625 to 675 lbs., 120.00 to 121.75; 700 to 750 lbs., 115.25 to 118.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 111.50 to 115.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 105.75 to 109.75; 950 to 975 lbs., 103.50 to 105.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 495 lbs., 128.00; 575 lbs., 126.50; 600 lb. calves 111.50; 675 lbs., 117.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 113.00 to 115.50; 845 to 900 lbs., 105.50 to 108.25. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 500 to 575 lbs., 115.00 to 122.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 105.00 to 114.00. Yearlings, 625 to 700 lbs., 115.00 to 118.00; 700 to 735 lbs., 110.00 to 112.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 105.00 to 108.50. Holsteins, Large frame 3, 700 lbs., 90.50; 955 lbs., 84.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 300 to 350 lbs., 147.00 to 157.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 135.00 to 140.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 121.50 to 130.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 122.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00. Yearlings, few 525 to 585 lbs., 120.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 110.00 to 114.00; 725 to 800 lbs., 104.50 to 108.00; 825 to 900 lbs., 98.00 to 103.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 117.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 108.50 to 110.00; 790 lbs., 103.75; 900 lbs., 95.50. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 400 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 114.00; 600 lbs., 105.00. Yearlings, 580 lbs., 117.00; 645 to 675 lbs., 103.00 to 109.50; 745 lbs., 105.00; 925 lbs., 95.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 12 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1475 lbs., 49.50 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 48.50. Boners, 29 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1700 lbs., 50.75 to 53.50 54.50 to 56.50; low dressing, 48.50 to 50.00. Lean, 16 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1525 lbs., 47.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 52.50 to 57.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 45.00. Lights, 4 head, 80 to 90% lean, 700 to 1000 lbs., 46.00 to 49.00; very low 38.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 14 head, 1200 to 1875 lbs., 65.00 to 68.00; high dressing, 67.50 to 69.00; very low, 55.00 to 57.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 6 to 9 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average quality 800.00 to 900.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 6 to 7 years old, 1150 to 1250 lbs., with 150- to 250-lb. calves, average quality 1220.00 to 1250.00.
