Numbers climb in Junior Hereford cow-calf pair showAfter winning the pee-wee showmanship competition and leading the reserve champion steer, second-time Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) exhibitor, Brooke Jensen, Courtland, Kan., was all smiles at the halter of the grand champion cow-calf pair. Jensen's pair competed against 33 pairs in the standard pair show and 8 bred-and-owned pairs to win the overall title at the sixth JNHE in Milwaukee, Wis., on July 14. Numbers were at an all-time high at the show with 630 National Junior Hereford Association members exhibiting 1,143 entries. The pair show numbers climbed 12 head since 2004. Jarold Callahan, Yukon, Okla., judged the 42-pair show and applauded the juniors who went to the effort to showcase their young breeding programs. Jensen's champion female is a February 2002 cow by SHF Interstate 20X DO3 with a February bull calf by Allendale Robin Hood. CRR DO3 Kay Baby 204 posted EPDs of birth weight (BW) 5.9; weaning weight (WW) 47; yearling weight (YW) 77; milk (MM) 12; and milk and growth (M&G) 36. Emilee Kottkamp, Clayton, Ind., returned to the junior national winners circle with her division champion from last year's owned heifer show. Prior to being slapped the reserve champion cow-calf pair, CMR Allison 122L 171N ET was a national division champion several times. The May 2003 cow is a daughter of Remitall Online 122L and showed with a fancy heifer calf by NJW 1Y Wrangler 19D at her side who went on to win her class in the bred-and-owned and owned shows. Allison showed with EPDs of BW 4.3; WW 47; YW 83; MM 18; and M&G 41. In the bred-and-owned division of the cow-calf pair show, Michael Delaney, Lake Benton, Minn., showed the champion pair. JDH MS Online 13N by Remitall Online 122L showed with a February heifer calf at side by PW Victor Boomer P606. The cow's EPDs read BW 5.8; WW 49; YW 91; MM 18; and M&G 42. Sarah Stream, Chariton, Iowa, showed SJS Kareena 320 to the reserve champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair title. The two-year old Remitall Embracer 8E daughter showed with EPDs of BW 2.5; WW 28; YW 55; MM 12; M&G 26, and a February heifer calf at side by NJW 1Y Wrangler 19D. Date: 9/22/05
