Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 10,546 head Sept. 15, compared to 2,719 head last week and 15,267 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, attractive quality feeder lambs weighing 60 to 90 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, and lambs over 90 pounds sold $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter ewes sold steady. There were many buyers on the seats with good to very good demand for all classes. A large number of ewe lambs sold for a premium. Receipts were about 52% feeders, 11% ewe lambs, 25% replacement ewes, 10% slaughter ewes and the balance was miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 54 to 59 lbs., 146.50 to 153.25 (149.68); 60 to 66 lbs., 144.00 to 153.50 (151.34); 29 head, 62 lbs., 141.00 fleshy; 71 to 79 lbs., 138.00 to 146.00 (141.69); 71 to 77 lbs., 149.00 to 156.00 (154.36) ewe lambs; 80 to 89 lbs., 127.50 to 139.75 (134.03); 80 to 85 lbs., 140.50 to 154.50 (150.89) ewe lambs; 90 to 99 lbs., 119.25 to 127.00 (120.61); 93 to 94 lbs., 126.50 to 134.50 (130.57) ewe lambs; 100 to 107 lbs., 108.50 to 119.75 (112.13); 25 head, 103 lbs., 132.00) ewe lambs; 19 head, 109 lbs., 127.00) ewe lambs; 110 to 119 lbs., 102.75 to 106.50 (105.47); 14 head, 110 lbs., 104.00 blackface.

Feeder lambs: Medium frame 1 and 2, 29 head, 44 lbs., 138.00; 51 head, 55 lbs., 148.00; 15 head, 68 lbs., 142.00; 114 head, 75 lbs., 138.00; 15 head, 86 lbs., 126.25; 15 head, 104 lbs., 105.50; 7 head, 116 lbs., 99.75.

Slaughter ewes: 272 head, Good 2 to 3, 173 to 177 lbs., 45.25; 20 head, Good 2 to 4, 188 lbs., 45.50; 391 head, Utility 1 to 2, 146 to 163 lbs., 44.50 to 46.00; 311 head, Cull 1, 132 to 136 lbs., 39.50 to 43.50.

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, open whiteface, 55 head, yearling, 170 lbs., 226.00; 219 head, yearling, 136 to 138 lbs., 211.00 to 220.00; 280 head, 2 to 3 years old, 178 lbs., 180.00 to 190.00; 63 head, 2 to 4 lbs., 169 to 181 lbs., 150.00 to 167.50; 38 head, 5 to 6 years old, 200 lbs., 159.00; 329 head, 5 to 6 years old, 163 lbs., 142.50 to 152.50; 251 head, 5 to 6 years old, 158 to 160 lbs., 123.00 to 136.00; 453 head, solid to short solid, 163 to 166 lbs., 123.00 to 127.50; 180 head, short solid to short term, 144 lbs., 75.00 to 90.00; 520 head, short term, 160 to 173 lbs., 93.00 to 111.00. Medium frame 1 and 2, 15 head, yearling to solid, 148 lbs., 130.00; 91 head, 4 years old to solid, 152 lbs., 122.00 to 125.00. Large frame 1 and 2, open blackface, 7 head, yearling to 3 years old, 182 lbs., 137.50; 39 head, yearling to 3 years old, 155 lbs., 124.00.

Aged bucks: 9 head, fleshy, 190 to 283 lbs., 31.25 to 39.50.
