Wheat seeding near completeNebraska For the week ending Oct. 23, rainfall across the southern half of the state slowed harvest in affected counties but continued to aid Wheat germination and fall growth, according to the Nebraska Agricultural Statistics Service, Oct. 24. Some replanting of the Wheat crop was being done with hopes of benefiting from recent precipitation and improved soil moisture levels. Corn harvest progressed to 60 percent complete, ahead of last year at 43 percent and average at 57 percent. Harvest was most advanced in east central areas and just getting a good start in the Panhandle. Soybean harvest progressed to 95 percent, ahead of 89 percent last year and 88 percent for the average. Sorghum harvest moved to 59 percent, ahead of last year at 41 percent but behind the average at 62 percent. Wheat seeding progressed to 98 percent, equal to last year and near the average at 99 percent. Ninety percent of the Wheat crop had emerged, just behind 91 percent last year and 93 percent for the average. Ninety-seven percent of the dry bean crop had been harvested, ahead of 79 percent last year and average at 94 percent. Proso millet harvest continued at 92 percent, ahead of last year at 78 percent but behind average at 94 percent. Pasture and range conditions rated 13 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 29 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Conditions remain better than last year and the average.
