The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,788 head, Oct. 25, compared to 4,000 head last week, and 4,021 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers weighing 400 to 550 pounds were $2 higher with instances of $4 higher, steers over 550 pounds were mostly steady to $2 higher. Heifers were steady to $1 higher. There were several big strings of reputation and good quality cattle in the offering. Buyers were active for the thin weaned calves and the light thin calves brought a big premium. The fleshly offerings, especially heavier calves, once again brought significant discounts. The supply was moderate. Demand was moderate to good. The supply consisted of 57% steers, 39% heifers and 2% bulls, with nearly 28% over 600 pounds.
