The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 4,902 head Oct. 17, compared to 5,115 head last week and 4,994 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, lightweight steers were $2 to $3 higher, with feeder steers $2 to $3 lower. Lightweight heifers were $2 to $4 higher, with feeder heifers steady to $1 lower. Quality was fair to attractive. Demand was very good especially on lighter calves. Weigh-ups were mostly average with more fleshy calves coming to market. Receipts were comprised of 47% steers, 41% heifers, 12% bulls, with 11% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. A total of 520 cows and bulls sold with 32% going to packers. Slaughter cows sold $3 lower, with bulls selling $2 lower.
