OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,463 head Oct. 19, compared to 5,657 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers were $2 to $4 lower. Feeder heifers were steady. Demand was light to moderate for feeder cattle. Availability of cattle trucks was still bothersome and buyer participation limited. Steer and heifer calves were steady, except heifer calves over 500 pounds were $2 to $4 lower. Demand remains good for calves. Quality was plain to attractive with several attractive calves. Feeder cattle were in slightly thin to moderate flesh conditions, calves in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate. Many cows returning to grass or headed to the feedlot. A total of 328 cows and bulls sold with 38% going to packers. The supply consisted of 72% over 600 pounds, 22% under 600 pounds, 6% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 41% of feeder and calf supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 225 to 250 lb. bulls 166.00 to 177.50; 325 to 400 lbs., 142.00 to 162.00; 425 to 500 lbs., 132.00 to 146.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 122.00 to 140.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 116.00 to 129.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 108.00 to 118.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00. Yearlings, few 650 to 700 lbs., 117.50 to 120.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 112.50 to 118.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 106.75 to 112.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, calves, 460 lbs., 132.00; 635 lbs., 112.00. Yearlings, 685 lbs., 117.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 113.00 to 114.00; 835 lbs., 107.75; 970 lbs., 103.00. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 400 to 500 lbs., 122.00 to 139.00; 525 to 575 lbs., 111.00 to 117.00. Yearlings, 695 lbs., 116.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 110.00 to 115.50; 815 lbs., 110.75; 900 to 950 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00. Small frame 4, Corrientes, 495 lbs., 90.50; 675 lbs., 94.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 95.00 to 95.50; 595 lb. Longhorns 91.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few 475 to 525 lbs., 96.00 to 97.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 400 to 475 lbs., 122.00 to 131.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 108.00 to 118.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 107.00 to 113.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00; package 725 lbs., 100.00. Yearlings, 750 to 800 lbs., 107.00 to 111.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 103.50 to 106.00; 900 to 935 lbs., 100.00 to 100.75. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, calves, 425 to 475 lbs., 119.00 to 128.00; 500 to 575 lbs., 106.00 to 114.00. Yearlings, 650 to 700 lbs., 109.00 to 113.25; 800 to 835 lbs., 102.25 to 103.25. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 400 to 425 lbs., 120.00 to 121.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.50 to 111.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 102.50 to 105.00. Yearlings, 695 lbs., 107.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 100.50 to 104.75; 985 lbs., 93.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 52 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1775 lbs., 46.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 50.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.50. Boners, 18 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1475 lbs., 46.50 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 42.00 to 43.00. Lean, 28 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1375 lbs., 45.25 to 47.00; high dressing, 49.50 to 50.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 40.00. Lights, 4 head, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 37.00 to 41.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 27 head, 1275 to 2100 lbs., 58.50 to 60.00; high dressing, 62.50 to 65.00; low dressing, 51.00 to 57.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, heifers, 900 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, average black 960.00; 4 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black 940.00 to 1050.00; 4 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average black 850.00 to 920.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1375 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, average black 830.00 to 910.00; 8 to 10+ years old, 1050 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, average quality 635.00 to 700.00.
