Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 4,083 head Oct. 20, compared to 5,848 head last week and 3,739 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs weighing 50 to 90 pounds sold steady to $3 higher with those weighing 70 to 80 pounds showing the gain and lambs over 90 pounds sold $3 to $5 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $3 higher with the good ewes showing the larger gain. Receipts were about 60% feeders, 18% slaughter ewes, 17% replacement ewes and the balance was slaughter bucks, breeding bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 64 head, 46 lbs., 135.00 thin; 54 to 58 lbs., 143.50 to 149.25 (148.04); 60 head, 66 lbs., 145.25; 70 to 76 lbs., 141.00 to 145.50 (144.28); 23 head, 74 lbs., 135.50 black face; 171 head, 73 lbs., 150.50 ewe lambs; 71 head, 83 lbs., 134.75; 91 to 96 lbs., 117.50 to 121.50 (119.09); 10 head, 98 lbs., 78.00 buck lambs; 100 to 102 lbs., 116.00 to 120.00 (117.70); 27 head, 100 lbs., 116.00 fleshy; 9 head, 112 lbs., 103.75 fleshy. Medium frame 1 and 2, 28 head, 63 lbs., 139.50; 74 to 77 lbs., 136.50 to 139.00 (138.53); 15 head, 72 lbs., 127.00 full; 83 to 89 lbs., 118.00 to 129.00 (124.24). Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 25 head, 128 to 131 lbs., 90.75 to 93.00.
