NMSU livestock judging team grabs another winNew Mexico The New Mexico State University livestock judging team won a third title at the State Fair of Texas' first-ever judging contest Oct.10 in Dallas. The team placed in the top five in each contest category, ranking first in sheep, second in cattle and reasons, and fourth in hogs. Team members finishing in the top 10 are Logan MacLennan of Byers, Colo., second overall; Johnathan Walsh of Torreon, third overall; and Morgan McConnaughey of Riverton, Wyo., ninth overall. Other team members are Mike Horvath of Hesperus, Colo., Jared Long of Great Falls, Mont., and Jenae Antonick of Sahuarita, Ariz. The team is coached by graduate assistant Darick Chabot. "All six team members posted scores in the top 20 individuals of the contest," said Clay Elliott, judging program coordinator. "It's exciting to know that we can count on all of these kids to go get points for the team." The team won its first title of the season last fall at the Express Ranch Cattle Judging in Yukon, Okla. NMSU followed up with a first place finish in Denver, a second in Phoenix, a third in San Antonio and a fourth in Houston. NMSU will wrap up the season with contests in Kansas City Oct. 22 and Louisville in November. Date: 10/24/05
