Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Nov. 12 totaled 10,075 head, compared to 18,100 head last week and 11,200 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at auctions throughout Wyoming feeder steers and heifers under 700 pounds sold steady to $5 higher, mostly $2 to $4 higher, not enough comparable sales over 700 pounds for a good market test. Direct feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 higher. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Offerings were light to moderate. Several feedlots indicating they are full or near capacity. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 55% of the supply, heifers 45%, with 29% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2425 head of the total receipts.
