The West Plains Ozarks Regional Stockyard, Jefferson City, Mo., reported receipts of 3,100 head Nov. 22, compared to 3,312 last week and 1,071 last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.
Compared to last Tuesday, steers under 600 pounds sold $2 to $4 higher, over 600 pounds steady to $2 higher. Heifers under 500 pounds were $4 to $7 lower, over 500 pounds were $2 to $4 lower. Supply was moderate. Demand was unevenly moderate to good, best on steer cattle as some of last week's power heifer buyers were completely out of this week's market, as no shows. Some other buyers indicating that if heifers are going to sell as close to steer mates as they have past few weeks, they'd opt in buying the steers. Last week's fat cattle trade appeared to give way to the traditional Thanksgiving menu somewhat, and sold mostly $2 lower at $90. And too, Friday's bearish Cattle on Feed Report offered little assistance in that regard, with 101 percent on feed of a year ago, 103 percent placements and 97 percent marketed. Most cattle buyers and auction owners are anticipating a fairly sizable run following the holiday. Tuesday's supply consisted of 53 percent steers and 47 percent heifers. Nearly 23 percent weighed over 600 pounds.
