Wyobraska cattle salesThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 21, totaled 2,450 head, compared to 3,200 head last week and 8,825 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested at Wyoming auctions. Demand was good for limited supplies. Direct feeder steers were steady on limited comparable sales, heifers not tested. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer and seller inquiry were moderate. Supplies limited in the country. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 100% of the supply, heifers 0%, with 82% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2165 head of the total receipts. Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 890 to 990 lbs., 98.75 to 105.25. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 575 lbs., 144.00; 600 lbs., 133.00 delivered; 770 lbs., 121.50; 825 to 850 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00; 850 lbs., 114.00 August delivered; 875 to 880 lbs., 110.00 October.
