Wildlife management seminar slated for May 25 in Upton County

Texas Cooperative Extension's Upton County office is presenting a wildlife management seminar May 25 in the Upton County Extension office meeting room. The Extension office is located at 1000 N. Highway 329 here.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. The program runs from 8:15 a.m. to noon.

"As hunting for profit gains in popularity, so does the need for current management information for our area," said Raymond Quigg, agricultural Extension agent in Upton County. "We've tailored this program to meet the specific needs of this region's landowners and operators. It should be a morning well-spent for newcomers and old pros alike."

Topics and speakers are:

--Plant Identification and Discussion, Ken Cearley, West Region Extension wildlife specialist, Canyon;

--Current Deer Population Overview and Hunting Outlook, Philip Dickerson, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologist, Midland;

--Population Monitoring, Cearley;

--Genetics as a Factor in Management, Shawn Gray, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologist, Fort Stockton;

--Age as a Factor in Management, Cearley;

--Quail Management, Dickerson;

--The Importance of Nutrition in Management, Kent Mills, Hi-Pro Feeds nutritionist, Snyder, and;

--Economic Incentives Benefitting Wildlife, Bill Thompson, Extension economist, Fort Stockton.

One Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit will be offered in the laws and regulations category.
