Topics for Nebraska Cattlemen midyear conference announcedNebraska Nebraska Cattlemen's Midyear Conference in North Platte will begin June 2 with golf and a chuckwagon supper. The business of the event is planned for June 3. One of the keynote speakers will be Doug Stark, chief officer of Farm Credit Service of America. He will discuss Farm Credit's goals in the beef industry. Also, Governor Dave Heineman has been invited to address conference participants. The breath of issues Nebraska Cattlemen is involved with will be evident in its policy committee meetings. Below are some items from the preliminary agendas. Animal Health: Updates on BSE Testing; Nebraska TB Surveillance Program; Premises Identification; Food Animal Veterinarian Task Force Report. Brand: Review of 2005 Legislative Issues; Nebraska Brad Committee Report. Marketing: Status of Beef Checkoff; Status of Cattle and Beef Trade with Canada; Re-establishing U.S. Beef Export Trade. Natural resources: Update on Title 130, DEQ and EPA issues. Taxation: Legislative Updates Related to State's Budget; Death Tax; I-300.
Registration on June 3 begins at 8 a.m., with committee meetings starting promptly at 9 a.m. Marketing, Taxation and Brand committee discussions will be staggered so producers can participate in all three if they wish. The afternoon program will wrap up the Midyear reports from Animal Health and Natural Resources committees, followed by a special general session featuring Farm Credit's Doug Stark. The Lincoln County CattleWomen will host a Beef and Wine Showcase to end the day. The event will feature beef items and wine and provide social time and raise funds for local charities. All meetings will take place at the North Platte Community College--South Campus with the Foundation Luncheon and Beef and Wine Showcase hosted at the Holiday Inn Express. The Nebraska Cattlemen association serves as the spokesman for the state's beef cattle industry and represents professional cattle breeders, ranchers and feeders, as well as 48 county and local cattlemen's associations.
