The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,060 head May 20, compared to 1,947 head two weeks ago and 1,247 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, trends on feeder cattle were not applicable due to light receipts offered in mostly small packages. Slaughter cows sold $2 to $3 higher than two weeks ago. Slaughter bulls sold fully steady. A large percentage of weigh-up cows went back to the country. Buyers displayed good demand for all classes offered. Feeder receipts included 87% heifers, 9% bulls and 4% steers, with 79% over 600 pounds. The offering was about 29% pairs, 23% replacement females, 22% feeders, 17% slaughter cows, 2% slaughter bulls and the balance was mostly feeder bulls, baby calves, bred cows and Longhorn roping cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium frame 2, 5 head, 459 lbs., 141.00 full.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 17 head, 554 to 598 lbs., 121.00 to 126.00 (124.89); 14 head, 708 to 735 lbs., 116.00 to 116.50 (116.11); 5 head, 809 lbs., 107.50; 56 head, 800 lbs., 108.10 value enhanced; 17 head, 862 lbs., 107.50 replacement. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 5 head, 697 lbs., 108.00. Medium frame 1 and 2, 7 head, 419 lbs., 141.50.

Feeder bulls: Large frame 1, 13 head, 1000 lbs., 86.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1798 to 2070 lbs., 60.00 to 61.75. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1105 to 1720 lbs., 63.00 to 65.50; high dressing, 66.00 to 67.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 62.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1455 lbs., 59.00 to 64.50; high dressing, 65.00 to 67.25; low dressing, 55.00 to 58.50.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, heifers, 715 to 765 lbs., 95.00 to 100.00; 800 to 1050 lbs., 89.00 to 100.00; 2 years old, 875 to 1160 lbs., 73.50 to 83.50, couple 90.00; heiferettes 960 to 1340 lbs., 68.00 to 75.00; feeder cows 970 to 1355 lbs., 64.00 to 66.00; young and smooth 66.50 to 67.00.

Baby calves: 300 to 375 lbs., 375.00 to 440.00; 160 to 280 lbs., 350.00 to 385.00; 75 to 140 lbs., 235.00 to 290.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 14 head, 2 years old, 1036 lbs., black with 218-lb. black calves, 1750.00; 14 head, 3 years old, 1109 to 1183 lbs., black-black whiteface, with 200- to 250-lb. black-black whiteface calves, 1590.00 to 1610.00; 9 head, 3 years old to solid, 1000 to 1298 lbs., mix with 80- to 150-lb. black-black whiteface calves, 1350.00 to 1500.00; 21 head, solid to broken, 1181 to 1350 lbs., red whiteface, with 125- to 150-lb. mix calves, 1250.00 to 1375.00; 10 head, broken, 1072 to 1150 lbs., mix with 140- to 250-lb. black-black whiteface calves, 1150.00 to 1175.00. Feeder bulls: Large frame 1, 791 lbs., 98.50; 1065 to 1165 lbs 79.50 to 81.00, individual 87.00; 1120 to 1374 lbs., 74.00 to 77.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1175 to 2435 lbs., 73.00 to 76.25; high dressing, 76.75 to 77.75; low dressing, 71.75 to 72.00.
