Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,463 head May 19, compared to 187 head last week and 1,054 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. The first major offering of new crop lambs sold on an active market. Trends were not applicable as the last reported sale was four weeks ago. Buyers were limited in numbers but showed very good demand. Receipts were about 43% new crop feeder lambs, 25% slaughter ewes, 20% slaughter lambs, 3% replacement ewes and the balance was bucks, pairs, miscellaneous sheep and goats. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 65 head, 44 lbs., 160.75; 60 to 66 lbs., 145.50 to 148.50 (148.38) 19 head, 69 lbs., 133.00 Short dock; 72 to 77 lbs., 138.00 to 142.00 (139.64); 29 head, 71 lbs., 120.25 Buck lambs; 80 to 85 lbs., 135.50 to 137.00 (136.33); 17 head, 85 lbs., 133.00 full; 95 lbs., 128.50 to 130.00 (129.74); 102 to 106 lbs., 120.25 to 120.75 (120.31); 24 head, 104 lbs., 116.50 Short dock; 8 head. 114 lbs., 101.00 Old crop. Slaughter lambs: Wooled, 46 head, Choice Yield grade 2 and 3, 123 lbs., 111.25; 116 head, Choice Yield grade 2 and 3, 136 lbs., 112.25; 126 head, Choice end Prime, 145 lbs., 112.75. Slaughter ewes: Shorn, 112 head, Good, Yield grade 2 and 3, 174 lbs., 43.75; 74 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 4, 211 lbs., 40.00; 97 head, Utility, Yield grade 1 and 2, 150 lbs., 43.25; 48 head, Cull, Yield grade 1, 138 lbs., 38.50; 12 head, Cull, Yield grade 1, 189 lbs., 36.00.
