McAlester stockyards reportThe McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 900 head March 22, compared to 1,600 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, No. 1 stocker and feeder cattle were mostly steady. Heavy rains across southern sections limited numbers on sale. Good attendance of buyers and active on upper tier cattle, moderate on balance. Quality was plain to average. Cattle were in mostly medium flesh. Receipts were comprised of 49% steers, 39% heifers with 19% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady, with instances of $1 to $2 higher. Good attendance of buyers with a total of 150 cows and bulls sold with 40% going to packers. Good demand, but limited numbers on replacement cows.
