Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending June 18, totaled 1,850 head, compared to 8,300 head last week and 4,175 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested at the Wyoming auctions. Demand was good for limited supplies. Not enough direct feeder cattle sales for a price comparison, few comparable sales were steady. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer and seller inquiry was moderate. Increased interest noted for contracting feeder cattle for summer and fall delivery. Supplies were limited in the country for current delivery. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 69% of the supply, heifers were 31%, with 26% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1640 head of the total receipts.
