Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 983 head June 16, compared to 1,702 head last week and 736 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, new to crop feeder lambs 100 pounds and under sold mostly $3 to $5 higher. There were no lambs under 60 pounds offered. Lambs over 100 pounds too few to test. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 higher. Receipts were about 68% feeder lambs, 15% replacement ewes, 12% slaughter ewes and the balance was goats, miscellaneous sheep and bucks.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 17 head, 46 lbs., 185.50; 11 head, 58 lbs., 147.50; 19 head, 54 lbs., 167.50 fancy; 60 to 67 lbs., 149.50 to 153.50 (150.20); 73 to 79 lbs., 138.75 to 139.75 (139.36); 83 to 89 lbs., 133.00 to 139.00 (135.22); 8 head, 84 lbs., 106.00 short dock; 32 head, 93 lbs., 131.75; 215 head, 100 lbs., 131.25; 19 head, 104 lbs., 124.00 full; 6 head, 108 lbs., 108.00 short dock; 29 head, 115 lbs., 118.00; 6 head, 113 lbs., 116.50 fleshy. Medium frame 1 and 2, 9 head, 56 lbs., 146.00.

Slaughter lambs: New to crop: 7 head, Choice, Yield grade 2 to 3, 142 lbs., 110.25.

Slaughter ewes: Shorn, 20 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 3, 168 lbs., 42.00; 28 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 4, 201 lbs., 39.75; 10 head, Utility, Yield grade 1 to 2, 151 lbs., 41.75; 49 head, Cull Yield grade 1, 140 to 142 lbs., 36.50 to 37.00.

Open replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 4 head, yearling, fleshy, 158 lbs., 127.50 per head; 13 head, 3 years to solid, fleshy, 195 lbs., 90.00 per head; 54 head, 6 years old, 150 lbs., 52.50 cwt; 64 head, short solid to broken, 142 to 163 lbs., 46.50 to 47.25 cwt.

Aged bucks: 11 head, fleshy 222 lbs 33.00.
