White Wheat survey, other topics slated for Risk and Profit ConferenceKansas Topics ranging from "Canadian Beef Issues" to "No-Till, Short- and Long-Run Economics to "Credit Quality of Kansas Farms" will be discussed at the annual Kansas State University Risk and Profit Conference and Trade Show. The event is scheduled Aug. 11 and 12 at the K-State Alumni Center. The conference, 'Economics Makes You Money,' will feature 20 presentations designed to provide producers with information to help them make decisions regarding their agricultural operations. 'Time to Sell the Double-Wide and Buy a Winnebago?' is a presentation by Joe Arata that will take a look at the relationship between interest rates, the real estate bubble, U.S. balance and payment deficit and the supply of capital of money. Arata teaches agribusiness management and other areas of agricultural economics at K-State. Prior to joining the K-State faculty, he was a vice president at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. "White Wheat in Western Kansas" to be presented by Todd Ziegler and Arlo Biere, will focus on the results of a survey that was sent to western Kansas growers asking about their perception of white wheat. The survey asked producers to give reasons for why they do or don't grow white wheat, and how aware they were of the Hard White Wheat Incentive Program that had been offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Ziegler is an Extension agricultural economist with the Kansas Farm Management Association in northwest Kansas. Biere is director of the undergraduate program for K-State's Department of Agricultural Economics. The conference registration fee includes meals, parking, and a copy of the proceedings. The fee is $160 if paid in advance or $185 if paid at the door. For groups of four or more that are paying with one check, a discount is available at $140 per person.
